There are a lot of candles out there.

You can find them in every color, shape, scent, and price point imaginable. So what actually makes a hand poured candle different?

For me, it's the fact that I get to be involved in every part of the process.

I hand pour every house of RANNI candle in small batches, from measuring the wax and fragrance to preparing each vessel and making sure everything is ready for its final pour.

It's a slower way to make candles.

That's kind of the point.

What Does “Hand Poured Candle” Actually Mean?

A hand poured candle is exactly what it sounds like: a candle that is poured by hand rather than produced entirely through an automated manufacturing process.

That doesn't mean someone is standing around stirring wax with a wooden spoon all day. There is still plenty of equipment and precision involved in professional candle making.

For me, hand pouring means I have direct involvement in the process from beginning to end.

I work with coconut-soy wax, fragrance oils, wicks, and vessels to create each candle, and I make them in small batches rather than producing thousands of candles at once.

Why Are Hand Poured Candles Different?

The biggest difference is the attention that goes into making them.

When I hand pour a candle, I'm not just putting wax into a vessel and calling it a day. I'm paying attention to the details that contribute to the finished candle, including the wax, fragrance, wick, vessel, and pour.

That matters because a candle is more than how it looks sitting on a shelf.

I want it to smell good.

I want it to burn properly.

And I want the experience of lighting it to feel just as good as the candle looks.

That's why I take the time to make RANNI candles in small batches.

What Are Small Batch Candles?

Small batch candles are made in limited quantities rather than being mass produced at a huge scale.

For RANNI, small batch production allows me to stay close to the process.

I'm able to work with smaller quantities of wax and fragrance at a time, pay attention to each batch, and keep the whole process feeling intentional.

It also means I'm not trying to create an enormous amount of inventory before I know what people actually love.

I'd much rather make a smaller batch of candles that I genuinely feel good about than fill a warehouse with thousands of candles.

Does Hand Pouring Make a Candle Better?

Hand poured doesn't automatically mean better.

There. I said it.

There are plenty of beautifully made candles that aren't hand poured, and there are plenty of hand poured candles that aren't particularly impressive.

What matters is what the maker does with the process.

For me, hand pouring is valuable because it gives me more control over how I make RANNI candles and allows me to stay intentional about the ingredients, fragrance, vessel, wick, and overall experience.

It's not a magic label.

It's part of the way I choose to make my candles.

Why I Choose Coconut-Soy Wax

The wax is a huge part of a candle, so choosing what goes into RANNI candles was important to me.

I use coconut-soy wax because I wanted a wax blend that fit the kind of candle I wanted to make: a candle that feels elevated, burns beautifully, and lets the fragrance shine.

The wax is only one part of the equation, but it's an important one.

A candle can have an incredible fragrance oil and still not deliver the experience I want if the rest of the candle isn't thoughtfully made.

Hand Poured Candles and Fragrance

Fragrance is obviously a very big deal around here.

I make candles because I love scent, and I want the fragrance to actually make an impact once the candle is lit.

RANNI candles are strong throws because I want you to be able to experience the fragrance throughout your space, not just when you're standing directly over the candle.

That means the fragrance itself matters, but so do the wax, wick, vessel, and way the candle is made.

Everything works together.

Why Small Batch Production Matters to Me

There is something special about knowing that a real person made the thing sitting in your home.

That's one of the reasons I started RANNI.

I don't want the candles to feel anonymous.

I want there to be a person behind them.

Me.

When I hand pour a batch of candles, I'm thinking about the fragrance, the finished product, and the person who is eventually going to light it in their home.

That feels very different to me than simply making something because a machine can produce another thousand units.

What Makes a Quality Hand Poured Candle?

For me, a quality candle isn't just about having a beautiful vessel or an amazing fragrance.

It's the whole experience.

I care about:

• The wax
• The fragrance
• The wick
• The vessel
• The scent throw
• The burn
• The finished appearance
• How the candle feels when you receive it
• How it feels when you light it

Every component has a job.

And when they're all working together, that's when you get a candle that feels really good to burn.

Why I Make RANNI Candles by Hand

I could probably make candles faster if I removed myself from more of the process.

But I don't really want to.

RANNI is intentional.

I like knowing what's going into the candles.

I like working with the fragrance.

I like seeing the finished batches come together.

And I like knowing that something I made by hand is eventually going to become part of someone's home.

That's the whole point.

So, Are Hand Poured Candles Worth It?

If you care about craftsmanship, small batch production, thoughtful ingredients, and knowing there is a real person behind the product, I think hand poured candles are absolutely worth considering.

For me, that's why I make them this way.

Every RANNI candle is hand poured in small batches using coconut-soy wax, with carefully selected fragrance oils and a whole lot of attention to the finished product.

It's not the fastest way to make a candle.

It's just my way.

And I think that's worth something.
