The Quick Burn | TL;DR
- Los Angeles is home to a huge community of independent makers, artists, designers, and small businesses, including candle brands.
- Buying a candle made in LA gives you the opportunity to support an independent local business and the person actually making the product.
- Small batch candle making allows me to stay closely involved in the process, from preparing the wax and fragrance to pouring and finishing each batch.
- I make RANNI candles in Los Angeles because this is where I live, create, and have built the brand.
- Buying local doesn't mean sacrificing fragrance, craftsmanship, or personality. Sometimes it means getting more of all three.

SHOP NOWWhy Buy Candles Made in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles has a very specific kind of energy.
There are the obvious things: sunshine, traffic, palm trees, overpriced coffee, and everyone somehow having a side project.
But underneath all of that is an enormous community of people making things.
Artists. Designers. Chefs. Perfumers. Ceramicists. Fashion designers. Photographers. Small business owners. Candle makers.
I'm one of them.
I make RANNI candles in Los Angeles, and being able to say "made in LA" isn't just a line on my packaging. It's part of the story of how the brand exists.
What does "made in Los Angeles" actually mean?
At its simplest, it means the product is made here.
But when you're talking about a small independent brand, there's usually a little more behind it.
Instead of a product being designed somewhere and manufactured thousands of miles away, the person behind the brand may be directly involved in making it.
That's the case with RANNI.
I hand pour my candles in Los Angeles in small batches using coconut-soy wax and thoughtfully crafted fragrance blends.
I'm not just choosing a fragrance, putting it on a website, and waiting for someone else to make the product.
I'm actually making the candles.
Why are there so many candle brands in Los Angeles?
It actually makes a lot of sense.
Los Angeles has a huge creative community, and fragrance fits naturally into that world.
Candles combine scent, design, atmosphere, packaging, interiors, and storytelling. They're functional, but they're also incredibly visual and personal.
And LA is full of people interested in all of those things.
There is also a strong culture of independent businesses here. You can find brands making everything from ceramics and clothing to perfume, food, skincare, and home fragrance.
Candle making fits right into that ecosystem.
What makes LA candle brands different?
There isn't one universal "LA candle."
That's part of what makes the category interesting.
One Los Angeles candle brand might be minimalist and architectural. Another might be colorful and playful. Another might focus on natural ingredients. Another might be inspired by the city itself.
The location doesn't determine the fragrance.
The person making the candle does.
That's why I think buying from an independent Los Angeles candle brand can be interesting. You're not just buying something that happens to have been manufactured in LA. You're buying something with a specific point of view behind it.
Why I make RANNI in Los Angeles
RANNI started here, and this is where I make my candles.
I'm involved in the process from start to finish, including preparing my coconut-soy wax, working with fragrance, preparing vessels, pouring batches, and finishing the candles.
Working on a smaller scale means I can stay close to what I'm making.
It also means I get to experiment.
Fragrance is creative. I'm constantly thinking about how different notes work together and how a scent will actually feel when it's burning in someone's home.
Making candles myself means I get to be part of that process instead of separating the creative side of the brand from the actual product.
What are the benefits of buying from a local candle brand?
For me, one of the biggest benefits is knowing there is an actual person behind the product.
When you buy from a small candle brand, you're often supporting someone's entire operation rather than one tiny piece of a massive supply chain.
That can mean supporting a person who is designing the products, making them, photographing them, packing orders, answering emails, running the website, and probably doing about seventeen other things that day.
I know this because I'm doing all of those things.
Buying from an independent brand can also give you access to products with a more specific point of view.
A small brand doesn't have to appeal to everyone.
I can make a scent because I personally love it.
I can experiment with an unusual fragrance combination.
I can build a collection around a feeling, a memory, or an idea.
That's one of my favorite things about running RANNI.
Are candles made in Los Angeles hand poured?
Not necessarily.
"Made in Los Angeles" tells you where a product is made. It doesn't automatically tell you how it is made.
Some LA candle brands may hand pour their candles. Others may use different manufacturing processes or work with larger production partners.
RANNI happens to be both made in Los Angeles and hand poured.
I make my candles in small batches, which means I'm directly involved in the pouring and finishing process.
Are LA candles worth buying?
I think the better question is: do you like the candle?
Where a candle is made can tell you something about the brand and its production, but it shouldn't be the only reason you buy it.
I still want the fragrance to be good.
I want the candle to burn well.
I want the vessel to look good in your space.
And I want you to actually be excited to light it.
Being made in Los Angeles is part of RANNI's story, but it's not the entire story.
It's one piece of why I make what I make.
Supporting Los Angeles small businesses
There's something satisfying about knowing where the things you buy come from.
When you buy from an independent Los Angeles candle brand, you're supporting a local business and the person behind it.
For me, that support makes a real difference.
Every RANNI order isn't just another transaction moving through a giant system. It directly supports the business I'm building and the candles I'm making.
And I think that's one of the best parts of buying from small brands in the first place.
You get to know the person behind the product.
Made in LA, made by me
RANNI is a Los Angeles candle brand because this is where I make it.
I hand pour my candles in small batches, work with fragrance that I genuinely love, and stay involved in the process from the first step to the finished product.
"Made in Los Angeles" is more than a location on a label for me.
It's part of the way I choose to build RANNI: independently, creatively, and one batch at a time.
